Hi Year 7
Welcome to RISK! Over the next 8 weeks you are going to be researching into what this word means for each of your subjects and also to YOU. As a school we are piloting an interdisciplinary project-based learning for year 7 using the International Middle Years Curriculum (this is the IMYC logo that you can see on this blog).
This journey begins with your ENTRY POINT. The Entry Point started with Marco Paoletti, the circus artist who spoke with you about RISK and DREAMS and where you made a juggling ball and started to learn some tricks. Hopefully you have learnt to juggle already. Marco shared with you that it is important to have a DREAM and that if you are really going to achieve that DREAM then you will need to take some RISKS. Marco had to make mistakes, practice more and learn to expand his ability to concentrate to achieve his dreams.
Your Entry Points now continue in each subject where they will begin to share with you what RISK could mean to their subject.
Now your learning really starts to take off so please look at the timeline on the next tab. Over the next 6 weeks in each class you will be exploring the idea of RISK through different projects and learning new skills as you go along. Your teachers are there to help and guide you through this journey.
RISK will end with the EXIT POINT. Your exit point will consist of three outcomes that are also shown on the timeline where you will be able to showcase your learning. Here are the three outcomes:
- Your CLASS PROJECTS that you produce in each of your subjects and that will end in week 6 (of the timeline). Your teachers will of course explain during your lessons what your projects will be about and how they will be evaluated.
- You will need to create a short MEDIA PRESENTATION. You will begin to think about this on the Convivencia in week 4 where James will refresh your memory on this. Your MEDIA PRESENTATION is created by you individually can be made on any platform such as a blog, an animation or a presentation on prezzi or powerpoint for example or any other media platform that you wish. Take a RISK and try a platform you think is fun and want to learn. Your Media presentation does not need to be long and you can use it to show what RISK means for you. You can include some of the learning from one or more of your subjects. Your tutor and L2L teachers will choose their favourites and these students will be invited to show their MEDIA PRESENTATIONS in an assembly in week 8 (of the timeline).
- You will also work in small groups of 3 or 4 students that you can choose to produce a STAND FAIR together. Your Stand will include what you have learnt from one subject. James will refresh your memory on this on the Convivencia as well. The STAND FAIR will take place on Tuesday the 26th April in week 7 (of the timeline) and you will be able to explain to lots of people what your stand means and what you had learnt. Your stand
Your MEDIA PRESENTATIONS and STAND FAIR will need to be completed as homework but you will also have half a day of lessons on Monday the 25th April (the day before the STAND FAIR) to finish them. Your teachers in L2L will also be helping you with this.
Finally, we hope that you enjoy this journey of learning and remember that we are all here to help you both inside and outside of the class.

Here is an example of a STAND FAIR so you can start to imagine what that means.
